Nova 106.9 has joined forces with Suncorp Insurance and Channel 9 Brisbane in a unique partnership that will see the popular Brisbane radio breakfast team fly to the USA on Friday 30 October 2015.
On Sunday 1 November 2015, Nova’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy and Nine News Brisbane news anchor, Andrew “Lofty” Lofthouse, will run the New York Marathon to raise awareness and much needed funds for Brisbane based charity, Youngcare.
Youngcare is the charity committed to helping young Australians with high care needs move out of aged care facilities and live a life of choice, independence and dignity.
Ash, Kip & Luttsy will run the New York Marathon with Tim Martin, who knows firsthand how important the work of Youngcare is for young people.
Tim was just 23, and in his last year at university, when he suffered a severe brain injury that left him unable to walk, talk or communicate.
Tim now resides in a purpose built high-care residential apartment, thanks to Youngcare, which gives him the freedom to live life as he chooses.
Ricky Dumigan from Execforce, who has been ensuring the Nova team are marathon ready, will join Ash, Kip & Luttsy in New York where they will all share the role of “pusher” for Tim’s wheelchair.
TPD Media will send a crew to film the trip for a special documentary which will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Youngcare. The documentary will air on Channel 9 Brisbane on 22 November 2015.
One lucky Nova listener has won the chance to join the Brisbane breakfast team in New York. Kylie and Brad, who are newly engaged, have never been to New York before and are excited to cheer the marathon runners on from the sidelines.
Ash, Kip & Luttsy will be broadcasting their hugely popular radio show live from New York throughout the week following the marathon.
Nova listeners in Queensland will hear the team live in New York from Monday 2 November through to Friday 6 November 2015 from 6am-9am (AEST).
Due to the time difference, Nova’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy will find themselves having to work immediately after completing the New York Marathon which is giving Nova 106.9 breakfast producer, Adam Waldock, some interesting challenges.
“Working through the logistics of broadcasting the breakfast show live from New York to Australia, especially on the first day when our three hosts will have literally just completed one of the world’s greatest marathons, has certainly been a challenge,” Waldock said.
“But our logistical challenges are nothing like the challenges that Youngcare face in their quest to get youth with high care needs out of aged care facilities in Australia.”
Nova 106.9 General Manager and Program Director Jay Walkerden said it has been a huge job but the team were thrilled to be able to facilitate such an incredible project.
“Nova 106.9 couldn’t be prouder to have the opportunity to join forces with Channel 9 to raise awareness about this incredible organisation and we would like to thank our partner Suncorp Insurance for helping to make it possible,” Walkerden said.
Suncorp Insurance has been supporting Youngcare since 2007.
This support has included direct funding, leading fundraising efforts and encouraging Suncorp staff to get involved with Youngcare.
Suncorp Insurance are sending the winners of their Change Course fitness challenge to New York with Ash, Kip & Luttsy.
The winners include Jenny Reedman who ran every week covering 323 km in total, raising $637. Jenny is taking her daughter to New York.
