Book Review by Hush Hush Biz Book Reviewer Jamie Campbell
Deep in the heart of New Orleans, Arelia and her best friend Sabrina are hired to work at an old plantation estate for the summer. Darkwood has a murky history rich in slavery and magic.
The moment Arelia steps foot on the plantation, she knows there is something different about the house. Coming from a line of voodoo queens, she starts to experience visits from the spirits who give her clues about her destiny.
Arelia is soon drawn to the plantation owner, Lucas. While he is handsome and charming, there is much more to him than meets the eye and Arelia is soon all too aware of that fact as her real reason for working at the estate becomes clear. Darkwood holds a secret, one that dates back to the earliest of New Orleans’ history.
With a setting as vibrant as any character, Bound delves into the voodoo religion in a true and honest way. Arelia is an interesting figure as she comes to terms with her fate as a voodoo queen.
While the story does tend to slow down at times, the storyline is unique and gives a glimpse into the New Orleans shadows. The first book a series, it promises of interesting things to come.
