Queensland Symphony Orchestra announces third Bolero concert after
ticket demand sizzles!
Brisbane loves orchestral sizzle with the Queensland Symphony
Orchestra today announcing that a THIRD QSO Plays Bolero concert will
be staged on Friday November 6 at 7.30pm, following overwhelming
demand for tickets to the two scheduled Bolero performances.
To celebrate the announcement of the third concert, QSO today made
musical history, performing Ravel’s Bolero in the Queen Street Mall.
It was the largest group of QSO musicians (54 in total) to ever
perform in the Mall.
Fiery, passionate, Spanish-flavoured and adored across the globe,
Bolero is French composer Ravel’s most popular work, written in 1928
as a ballet score for his friend, the Russian dancer and actress Ida
Rubinstein. For many across the globe, the defining moment for Bolero
in the modern era was when British ice skaters Torvill and Dean used
the powerful piece as the soundtrack to their historic
gold-medal-winning performance at the 1984 Winter Olympics.
Bolero will be performed on Friday November 6 at 11am and 7.30pm and
again on Saturday November 7 at 7.30pm in the QPAC Concert Hall.
The concerts will feature impassioned performances from emerging
Italian piano sensation Beatrice Rana, as well as Conductor Fabien
Gabel, the current toast of the big European orchestras, with the
Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
