Cinderella’s dreams come true on the Gold Coast

Embrace the magic and romance

Following a sold-out Brisbane season last year, Queensland Ballet’s beautiful production of Ben Stevenson’s internationally acclaimed Cinderella is set to spread a little magic on the Gold Coast.

This charming, humorous and blissfully romantic production will be presented at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on 19 – 20 September.

Queensland Ballet’s Artistic Director Li Cunxin comments: ‘We are passionate about sharing our love of dance with regional Queensland audiences, and I’m very excited to bring Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella to the Gold Coast.’

Cinderella is one of the most popular and well known ballets in the classical repertoire. Stevenson choreographedCinderella in 1970 for the National Ballet of Washington D.C. It has since been performed by many companies across the globe, and is widely acknowledged as one of the best productions of this delightful fairytale.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s expressive music, this beautiful classical ballet has been danced by some of the most famous ballerinas of our time, including Margot Fonteyn.

‘Cinderella holds a special place in my heart. Ben Stevenson’s production was one of the first ballets that I saw when I went to the West. I had tears in my eyes as I watched it – not only is the music beautiful, but the story is full of magic and joy,’ comments Li.

Given a glittering gown by her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella travels to the royal ball in a miraculous pumpkin coach. Making a dazzling entrance, she captures the attention of all and the heart of the Prince. Yet her beautiful dream must end at midnight, and in her haste to depart, she leaves one jewelled slipper behind…

From the antics of the Ugly Stepsisters to the beauty of the wedding pas de deux, Ben Stevenson’s classic production of Cinderella will entertain and charm adults and children alike.
