A special memorial concert will be held for The Arts Centre Gold Coast (TACGC)’s former in-house artistic director Robert Young on Tuesday 17 December at 6pm.
Former TACGC cast and crew members will pay tribute to Robert Young by performing songs from some of his favourite and most successful shows, including My Fair Lady, Jekyll and Hyde, Les Misérables, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, and many others.
For 20 years Robert Young directed and choreographed more than 40 shows at the TACGC, nurturing a talented and passionate musical theatre community on the Gold Coast. Young also pioneered TACGC’s Summer School Program, mentoring young talent from all over the Gold Coast and beyond in all aspects of musical theatre production. Many of Young’s former students have gone on to become successful national and international theatre professionals, working on shows including The Wizard of Oz, Jersey Boys, Hairspray, Avenue Q, Fame, Grease, Legally Blonde and performing with groups such as The Ten Tenors and Opera Australia.
Robert Young passed away on Sunday 1 December from complications due to prostate cancer. He is survived by his partner, John Knipe.
Attendance to the concert will be by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
