THEATRE REVIEW…. LYSA AND THE FREEBORN DAMES

I AM WOMEN LET ME ROAR

LYSA AND THE FREEBORN DAMES

La Boite’s latest production along with QUT Creative Industries kicked off its global premiere of one of the most punching productions I have seen being a Femm Comedy of sorts Lysa and the Freeborn Dames.
This very clever play by Claire Christian, who in 90 minutes straight unravels a story centred around newcomer and amazing talent Tania Vukicevic who plays Lysa, a 19 year old back in her home town after a year away with a mission and intent to make changes for Women Rights.

The action takes place at the local Football Club, a location Lysa has chosen to set a number of events in motion. From the start to the first half of this production it does unravel a bit with staging lots of compulsive displays of anger where Lysa has trapped the football hero of town in a room in the club with three female friends that are allies to a degree and local policeman who aim get all mixed up in the process. This becomes more intense for all in room as truth comes to surface, as to seeing the towns reaction.

In the mix we have a trio of female voices who sing and recite throughout the play and are collectively outstanding in this production lead by Barbara Lowing, Roxanne McDonald and Hsiao-Ling Tang.

The conclusion of Lysa and Freenborn Dames is powerful, gripping, sets emotion and sends out the messages loud and clear and the cast combined are electric on stage.

Gather your family and friends to come see this before it ends on 11 August 2018.

Starring: Hugh Parker, Barbara Lowing, Roxanne McDonald, Hsiao-Ling Tang and introducing Tania Vukicevic as Lysa.
