NYPD detective Danny Reagan takes a position with the Boston Police Department and is paired with detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The Silver family is comprised of Boston district attorney Mae Silver, Boston PD detective Lena Silver, police superintendent Sarah Silver, rookie cop Jonah Silver and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters. As Reagan settles into his new city, he also hopes to reconnect with his younger son, Sean, who is beginning his own career in Boston.
If you’re a fan of the Blue Bloods family, then you will either love this or hate it as a spin-off. Donnie Wahlberg is one of my favourites, and he certainly steps into another city with ease. His son is now a cop, but fate has it that while trying to save people during a fire, Danny ends up in the ICU. Enter Lena Silver, played by Martin-Green, who is a version of Danny Reagan in many ways — strong instincts, family ties, and a similar drive. The two team up to solve a crime scene that slowly unravels with plenty of suspicion.
I didn’t mind the pacing, although the writing does need to improve to keep interest across all the developing characters. Overall, it’s centred on family politics again, but this time the focus is on the Silver family and the city of Boston, with new “bloods” growing in the world of law and crime. Give it a go, as time will tell if it makes it to season two.
