Brisbane audiences are set for a sparkling end to the year when Sweet Charity arrives at QPAC from 11–14 December, presented by Prospero Arts in collaboration with QPAC.
The beloved musical will be staged as a semi-staged concert event in QPAC’s Concert Hall, featuring an all-Australian cast and a live 16-piece band — the final offering in Prospero Arts’ 2025 Concert Series.
Taking centre stage as the ever-hopeful Charity Hope Valentine is Loren Hunter, who recently delighted audiences with her acclaimed performance as Jane Seymour in SIX the Musical. Stepping into a role made famous by Shirley MacLaine, Hunter says Sweet Charity is a dream opportunity.
“I’m excited to take on a role as iconic as Charity,” Hunter said. “Her story of hope and resilience really resonates with me, and to share this with audiences in my hometown is incredibly special. Everything I’ve learnt from past roles will feed into this performance, but I also know Charity will push me to grow in new ways.”
Under the musical direction of Michael Tyack, audiences can expect unforgettable renditions of classics including Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, and Rhythm of Life.
The production is helmed by award-winning director and choreographer Cameron Mitchell, who brings a fresh energy and contemporary flair to the Tony Award-winning 1966 Broadway classic.
Prospero Arts Founder and Managing Director Hayley Johnson says Sweet Charity is the perfect finale for the company’s annual series.
“Prospero Arts has partnered with QPAC since 2022 to present concert-style versions of some of musical theatre’s biggest titles, starting with Singin’ in the Rain,” Johnson said. “This format is a wonderful platform for the story, the beloved score, and the calibre of Australian talent on stage, all supported by a live orchestra.”
