A Winter Night of Mulled Wine, Firelight & Christmas
Movies
Christmas in July Festival Sydney returns to The Rocks from
10 to 19 July, transforming the historic precinct into a magical European-inspired winter
village complete with snow falls, Christmas lights, mulled wine, festive chalets and one of
Sydney’s most unique winter experiences: the Fire Pit Cinema.
Set beneath the stars and surrounded by glowing fairy lights, the Fire Pit Cinema invites
guests to slow down and embrace winter the way it was always meant to be enjoyed. Visitors
can settle into comfortable deck chairs, wrap themselves in blankets, toast marshmallows
over open fire pits and sip mulled wine or hot chocolate while classic Christmas films play on
the big screen.
In a city where winter is often overlooked, the experience has become a seasonal ritual for
thousands of Sydneysiders looking to escape into a world of firelight, festive nostalgia and
cosy winter moments.
Imagine watching Home Alone, Love Actually or Elf while gathered around a crackling fire,
surrounded by Christmas lights, the aroma of mulled wine and roasted marshmallows filling
the air. It’s an experience that feels closer to a European winter village than the centre of
Australia’s largest city.
The Fire Pit Cinema has become one of the festival’s most sought-after experiences,
attracting couples, families and groups of friends looking to create winter memories together.
Unlike a traditional cinema, guests are immersed in the atmosphere of the festival itself, with
food stalls, Christmas markets and festive entertainment surrounding the venue.
Beyond the cinema, visitors can wander through rows of beautifully decorated wooden
chalets inspired by the Christmas markets of Europe, discover artisan products, enjoy raclette
and melted cheese experiences, warm up with mulled wine and winter treats, and experience
snowfall moments throughout the festival.
This year, visitors attending the final weekend will also be able to enjoy a special cultural
crossover as Bastille Festival joins the celebrations from 16 to 19 July, bringing a selection of
French films presented in their original language alongside the traditional Christmas movie
program.
As Sydney settles into its coldest season, Christmas in July Festival once again invites
visitors to gather around the fire, embrace winter traditions and experience a little Christmas
magic in the middle of July.
