MADE IN QUEENSLAND: New Web Comedy Series Deserted Launches on YouTube
Filmed on North Stradbroke Island, Starring Shuang Hu and Sean Lynch
A fresh comedic gem made in Queensland has just dropped online. Deserted, a five-part short-form web comedy series from Brisbane-based Moving Floor Entertainment, has officially launched on Shuang Hu’s YouTube channel, The One Shu.
Shot entirely on location on Quandamooka Country, North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), Deserted is a classic odd-couple story with a tropical twist—two strangers marooned on a deserted island discover just how irritating paradise can be when you don’t get along.
Starring Queensland’s own Shuang Hu (Five Blind Dates, The Family Law) and actor-comedian Sean Lynch (Ticket to Paradise, Danger Close), the series was penned by award-winning screenwriter Stephen M. Irwin (Harrow, Tidelands) and co-directed by Irwin and Logan-based filmmaker Lark Lee. Producers are Lark Lee and Leigh McGrath, with cinematography by acclaimed DOP Nick Paton ACS.
“This was such a delight to film,” said Hu. “Those beaches are some of the most beautiful places I’ve been lucky enough to work. And the series itself—genuinely funny and light-hearted—was a joy to bring to life.”
Lynch praised both the setting and the team: “Shu was incredible to work with, and the crew made those long, hot days on the sand feel like a breeze.”
The production received key funding from Screen Australia’s Online Production Fund, supporting a team that blended industry veterans with rising talent. Director and producer Lark Lee, a Korean-Australian storyteller, said, “Deserted was a great opportunity to stretch my skills and work with an incredible team. We’re so grateful to Screen Australia for making it possible.”
Emerging filmmaker Sophia Le Ray, who joined as 3rd Assistant Director, echoed the sentiment: “Working on Deserted was unforgettable—it was the perfect way to gain hands-on experience in a professional, supportive environment.”
Co-producer Leigh McGrath highlighted the production’s collaborative nature and Queensland pride: “We saw this series as a platform for local talent at every level. And even with the unpredictability of beach shoots, everything came together beautifully thanks to a committed crew and strong planning.”
Episodes of Deserted will be released throughout July 2025 on the @TheOneShu YouTube channel, accompanied by exclusive behind-the-scenes content and teasers.
