QUEENSLAND FILM ANNOUNCEMENT
Screen Queensland has confirmed that filming has begun in Queensland, Australia on Amazon MGM Studios’ Subversion, starring Chris Hemsworth, Lily James, Michael Peña, Joe Cole, Simone Kessell, Robert John Burke and David Wenham.
A tense cat-and-mouse thriller set on international waters, Subversion is shooting at Village Roadshow Studios. The film is written by Andrew Ferguson and directed by Patrick Vollrath (7500), with production led by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers).
More than 400 local cast and crew will be employed on the production, which is set to deliver significant economic benefits to Queensland.
Jacqui Feeney, Screen Queensland CEO, said that Subversion is the latest in a strong line-up of projects made in the state for Amazon MGM Studios.
“We are proud to continue our ongoing collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, which has recently included the productions Balls Up, The Bluff and Voltron. Subversion further cements the trust that has been established with our local crew base. We are pleased to welcome back executive producer E. Bennett Walsh with another complex action epic that will be shot between Brisbane and the Gold Coast,” Ms Feeney said.
“Subversion will benefit from Queensland’s growing expertise on high-end, highly technical action productions, as well as the water tank infrastructure at Village Roadshow Studios and the capabilities of our innovative virtual and post-production businesses.”
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura added:
“Subversion is a high-stakes action thriller that needs scale and scope. Queensland was a natural fit because it offers incredible scenery, a great studio and a world-class crew. A lot of the movie takes place on the water and Queensland has spectacular oceanscapes.”
Subversion is also executive produced by Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen for di Bonaventura Pictures, with E. Bennett Walsh serving as executive producer.
The film is supported by Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, the Australian Government through the Location Offset, and the City of Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.
