Dwayne Shares He Is “Super Excited” The Series Has Started Shooting:

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, has commenced production on YOUNG ROCK in Queensland, Australia. The series focuses on different chapters of international superstar Dwayne Johnson’s life. From growing up in a strong and resilient family, to being surrounded by the wild characters of his professional wrestling family, to playing football at the University of Miami, the show will explore the crazy rollercoaster that has shaped Dwayne into the man he is today and the larger-than-life characters he’s met along the way.

YOUNG ROCK hails from “Fresh Off the Boat” creator Nahnatchka Khan and co-executive producer Jeff Chiang who co-wrote the pilot episode. The duo executive produce alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz and Jennifer Carreras. Australian natives Jeffrey Walker, who will serve as co-executive producer, and Daina Reid will both be directing various episodes throughout the series.

“We’re so excited to be shooting YOUNG ROCK here in Brisbane and at Screen Queensland Studios,” said co-showrunners Khan and Chiang. “The city offers amazing production value, the topnotch local cast and crew have been incredibly warm and welcoming, and the koalas have been as advertised – cute and sleepy.”

Leveraging its local expertise and infrastructure, NBCUniversal International Studios’ Matchbox Pictures oversees the production on the ground, partnering with Universal Television to deliver the series which is shooting at Screen Queensland (SQ) Studios. YOUNG ROCK has also been shooting in locations in and around Brisbane and South East Queensland. The series is the first of three from Universal Studio Group to film back-to-back at the Brisbane studio (the others being Universal Content Productions’ “Joe Exotic” and “Irreverent” from International Studios’ Matchbox Pictures).

Previously announced cast of YOUNG ROCK includes: Adrian Groulx as Dwayne Johnson (AKA Dewey), Age 10; Bradley Constant as Dwayne Johnson, Age 15; Uli Latukefu as Dwayne Johnson, Age 18-20; Stacey Leilua as Ata Johnson, Dwayne’s mother; Joseph Lee Anderson as Rocky Johnson, Dwayne’s father; and Ana Tuisila as Lia Maivia, Dwayne’s grandmother.
