Fans of the high-energy, pop duo Karmin will be able to enjoy more new music from the pair when they release their highly-anticipated second studio album, LEO RISING on Friday, September 9th through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. Based on the twelve signs of the zodiac, the 13-track album was entirely written and produced by Karmin’s Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan and will be available as a digital release to fans worldwide.
LEO RISING tells the story of struggle, self-discovery, and the pursuit of creative freedom. With songs like ‘Dance with You,’ which expresses the aggressive warrior sign of Aries, ‘Everything,’ which embodies the humble sign of Virgo, and ‘Blame it On My Heart,’ inspired by the fun-loving Sagittarius, each song represents a corresponding sign while reflecting Karmin’s own exploration of their new, pop alternative sound. The duo became inspired to write the album after a life changing trip to an astrologer gave them insightful findings and helped guide them through a musical transition to a daring new collection of songs.
“I’m a Nebraska native turned Boston girl turned California hippie,” said Amy. “It was a visit to an astrologer that pushed me deep into the ancient zodiac archetypes, and before I knew it, they were telling stories through my songs.”
LEO RISING still has the foundation of what listeners love from Karmin while growing into a more alternative sound. Amy’s rapid fire raps on past albums have evolved into more unique, melodic flows with shimmering hooks, as is evident on songs such as the band’s infectious single ‘Sugar’ and the new bonus track ‘Love is Louder’. Nick’s airtight instrumentation shines throughout with plenty of fresh moments for fans to discover.
“As a producer, my focus was creative freedom because it’s the first time we were alone in a room drawing our own soundscapes,” said Nick. “I wanted to showcase Amy’s raw vocal ability rather than following a ‘pure pop’ approach, but at its core, the music is still the fun good-natured spirit that Karmin has always been about.”
A selection of tracks from LEO RISING have already debuted via Karmin’s official app, generating great preview buzz, including ‘Sugar,’ ‘Along The Road,’ ‘Didn’t Know You,’and ‘Pure Imagination’. Fans can also pre-order the album now from their official website, KarminMusic.com, which will include brand new, unreleased tracks from the duo including ‘No Suitcase,’ ‘I Got You,’ and a very special bonus track, ‘Love is Louder’.
Karmin have become a favorite in the pop world through their genre-bending sound which fuses an infectious and versatile blend of hip-hop, pop, rock and alternative music. They’ve grown that success with their memorable, dynamic live performances. They were also the first fan-discovered group to translate from viral video sensations to stadium status with over half a billion views and double platinum worldwide sales. Amy and Nick, who comprise Karmin, met in 2004 at Berklee College of Music and found viral fame from their YouTube cover performances of popular songs such as ‘Look at Me Now’ and ‘Super Bass’. They released their debut EP, HELLO in May 2012, which included Billboard chart topping hits ‘Brokenhearted’ and ‘Hello’. The duo released their full length debut album, PULSES in March 2014 with the lead single ‘Acapella,’ which went gold in the United States. LEO RISING is the duo’s second studio album and their first to be released independently.
