Alice in Wonderland
Down the rabbit hole we go…
Alice in Wonderland comes to life on stage with an incredible and imaginative production of the much-loved classic.
Presented by Boyd Productions and hosted at the Home of the Arts (HOTA), a talented cast stay true to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The tale begins with Alice spotting The White Rabbit, tumbling down the rabbit hole and discovering a magical world. Along the way she encounters many bizarre yet exciting characters, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, Dormouse, March Hare, Caterpillar and the evil Queen of Hearts.
The production featured eight talented cast members whose skills allowed them to take on multiple roles with ease and each delivered a unique take on the beloved characters. The performers were both engaging and humorous, delighting the young audience with laughter. In particular, the lead actress perfectly encompassed Alice’s curiosity, confidence and strong will and her talent encouraged the audience to feel a sense of familiarity with the much-loved original character.
Utilising animatronic puppets for Cheshire Cat, Dormouse and The White Rabbit, added a unique element to the story and was a fun, innovative inclusion to further spark the imagination. With a colourful set and dynamic costuming, these elements gave the audience a true window into Alice’s world. However, whilst the primary set allowed for all scenes to take place, there was a lack of variety in props and staging to visually complement specific scenes.
Overall, this colourful and vibrant telling of Alice in Wonderland, will leave you wishing you were a kid again.
