World Science Festival Queensland returns to Ipswich this August as the last stop of the festival’s regional tour, spanning the state over two free STEM-tastic days from Friday 11 – Saturday 12 August 2023.
Showcasing science from the supermassive to miniscule, World Science Festival Queensland will engage visitors through activities, shows and stalls featuring robots, interactive tech, VR, the best of the region’s science and technology and some visiting spectacular cross-discipline science treats from around Queensland.
On Friday 11 August students from local Ipswich schools will have an opportunity to experience a stimulating Student Day spread across three sessions.
The Student Day will be headlined by pop-up science shows, talks from scientists showcasing careers and pathways into STEM industries, and STEM Punks’ popular Innovation Sports; a design and digital crafting competition using Minecraft.
From 9.30am to 3pm on Saturday 12 August World Science Festival Queensland invites visitors of all ages to join in the STEM fun with FREE entry to The Workshops Rail Museum and all that the festival has to offer.
Queensland Museum Network CEO Dr Jim Thompson said Ipswich residents and schools have always welcomed the festival into their region and is delighted for the festival to return to The Workshops Rail Museum for another year.
“The festival was hugely successful this year in Brisbane and I’m looking forward to bringing the same high-quality programming to Ipswich for schools, families and science lovers to enjoy,” Dr Thompson said.
“Each year Ipswich embraces the festival, and we anticipate the Community and Student Days at The Workshops Rail Museum will inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators and will continue the positive impact the regional program has had throughout Queensland.”
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said World Science Festival Queensland encourages school students and regional communities to come together to experience the fun and wonder of science.
“World Science Festival Queensland is a favourite for visitors of all ages, as it tours to regional areas across Queensland inspiring a love of learning and expanding awareness and understanding of the complex and changing world around us,” Minister Enoch said.
“The Queensland Government has supported World Science Festival Queensland since 2016 and has committed to ensuring Queenslanders can continue to engage in the wonders of science, with new investment of $9 million securing the World Science Festival Brisbane and World Science Festival Queensland until 2026-27.”
