The Manor Hotel was the host venue last night 16th June for Barbara Proudman, who has retired from running the Tamborine Times after 32 years. With a room full of close friends and associates over the years it was one of her long-time loyal friends, Laurene Hassard, said, Barbara gave back to the community and was always deep and genuine in her engagement with it. Whether it was Rain or Shine Barbra showed up to support lots of news events.
Michael and Margrett Aves first started the Times, but in 1994, Barbara and her husband Kevin took over running the paper. After Kevin’s passing in 2001, Barbara kept the Times going. For over 30 years, she built many relationships and persevered through good and hard times to keep the paper going.
A lovely tribute to her life was shared during the evening by Susannah Lathlean, who sang “Mr. Bojangles,” while Barbara gave a divine dance performance, later followed by the song “Send in the Clowns.” Barbra sang. The room was filled with emotion during further speeches by her current partner Gary Ennis and Barbara herself, who expressed her appreciation for the community and all those who have been part of her life.
To cap off the night, a big cake was presented, and with her family, Barbara cut the cake to great cheers, applauding her dedication to service.
