NEW SERIES ’BATWOMAN’ ON FOX8 TUESDAYS 8:30PM AEST
Hush Hush Biz takes a look at ‘Batwoman’, the newest action packed comic book television series from producer Greg Berlanti now on FOX8.
The pilot gives us the backstory of Kate Kane leading to her beginnings as Batwoman. It has been three years since Batman has been seen in Gotham city. In his place, a private security firm called Crows Security has set up to protect Gotham. This appears to be going well until an Alice in wonderland themed villain named Alice makes herself known.
This series is set in the Arrowverse (the shared tv universe that began in 2012 consisting of ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’ and now ‘Batwoman’ as well as various mini series). It looks like this series will flesh out the world these series’ have created and take it in a new direction leading up to the highly anticipated crossover event, ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’.
This episode was directed by Marcos Siega. Siega has a lengthy history of directing episodes of popular television series. Some of the shows he has worked on include ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘You’, ‘Cold Case’, ‘Veronica Mars’, ‘True Blood’, ‘Dexter’ and ‘God Friended Me’. He also directed many iconic music videos for various bands such as ‘All the Small Things’ for Blink-182, ‘Dirty Little Secrets’ for All-American Rejects and ‘Beverly Hills’ for Weezer.
The title character, Batwoman is portrayed by Australian actress Ruby Rose. Rose is an actress, musician and model who began her television career with MTV Australia in 2007 and continued to make appearances on various Australian television shows until 2011. Since then she has gone on to star in ‘Orange is the New Black’ as well as appearing in many iconic films such as ‘Pitch Perfect 3’, ‘The Meg’, ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’, ‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’ and ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’. Rose made her first appearance as Batwoman in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover, ‘Elseworlds’.
Other actors in the series include Rachel Skarsten (who previously starred on ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘Reign’) as Alice, Meagan Tandy (who previously starred in ‘Charmed’, ‘UnREAL’ and ‘Teen Wolf’) as Sophie Moore and Dougray Scott (who previously starred in ‘Taken 3’ and ‘Fear the Walking Dead’) as Kate’s father, Jacob Kane.
‘Batwoman’ is an exciting action filled adventure that the whole family will enjoy. New episodes air Tuesdays 8:30pm AEST.
