Teenage music superstar BIRDY announced as the second performer at the TV WEEK Logie Awards
With the 55TH TV WEEK Logie Awards just over a month away, TV WEEK have announced that teenage musician/singer and You Tube phenomenon BIRDY is the next performer to be appearing onstage on Australian television’s night of nights. She joins fellow English performer OLLY MURS as the first two artists confirmed for the entertainment lineup.
Born Jasmine van den Bogaerde, Birdy heralds from the New Forest, UK. She was given her unique nickname/stage name by her parents as, when she was a baby, Jasmine would open her mouth so wide it reminded them of a baby bird.
She recorded a demo of her own arrangement of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” which became her debut single and took her straight to the Top 20. The song also featured on TV in The Vampire Diaries. She followed it with an equally original interpretation of The xx’s “Shelter”, and her debut album Birdy features her take on songs by artists such as Cherry Ghost, The National, Phoenix, The Postal Service and James Taylor. It was recorded in London and Los Angeles with top producers such as Rich Costey (Muse, TV On The Radio), James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, The Klaxons) and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys).
Tens of millions of people worldwide have clicked on YouTube to see Birdy perform- her Radio 1 Live Lounge spine-tingling performance of Ed Sheeran’s “The A Team” made her the second most viewed UK artist on YouTube.
In Australia both Birdy’s album and single have gone multi-platinum with her debut album Birdy peaking at #1 on both the ARIA and iTunes Album Charts and is 2 x platinum certified. Her debut single “Skinny Love” peaked at #1 in the national Airplay chart, and peaked at #2 on the ARIA Single Chart and stayed there for three consecutive weeks. “Skinny Love” has been certified 5 x platinum. Her single “People Help The People” has also been certified platinum.
Birdy’s third single, the John Butler Trio’s “What You Want” is an Australian exclusive. She is already talking about her second album and looking forward to recording more of her own material.
In Australia for her debut national tour including three shows at the Sydney Opera House, Birdy will be performing Skinny Love on stage at the Palladium for the Logies.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Birdy will be performing at the Logies. Her appearance is guaranteed to be a show-stopping moment,” said TV WEEK editor, Emma Nolan
“I am really looking forward to seeing my Australian fans and being there for the Logies,” Birdy told TV WEEK. “When I was younger I always watched Neighbours and now I watch Home And Away as well, so it will be good to see those actors on the night!”
