BLUESFEST WINS AUSTRALIAN EVENT AWARD FOR AUSTRALIA’S BEST CULTURAL, ARTS OR MUSIC EVENT!
The 25th Annual Bluesfest was awarded Australia’s Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event last night at the 2014 Australian Event Awards, held at Doltone House in Sydney. The Bluesfest team was at the Industry night of nights to accept the award that recognises artistic excellence, innovation and/or support of music, arts and culture. Bluesfest was nominated against Vivid Sydney 2014, Santos Tour Down Under 2014 and Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour: Madame Butterfly, Opera Australia. The awards are judged by an independent panel of judges who are representative of all areas of the industry by sector and by geography.
Festival Director Peter Noble was in Sydney to accept the award and said “The Australian Event Award finalists are all industry professionals. It’s an honour to win an award judged by your peers. We were up against other major events such as Vivid Sydney and Santos Tour Down Under, all of them were deserving to win, making our win even more thrilling. Once again we show that regional events in Australia can also win major awards, even up against those fully funded by bodies such as destination NSW. I am thankful to my amazing and dedicated team, without them none of this would be possible.”
Bluesfest was also nominated for Best Tourism Event, Best Regional Event, and Boomerang Festival was nominated for Best New Event. Bluesfest was also in the running for title of Australia’s Favourite Event and made it to the top 10 out of 145 nominated events, thanks to the public vote which accumulated to over 182,000 votes overall. In 2013 Bluesfest won the Best Regional Event and in 2010 was proudly awarded Australian Event of the Year at the Australian Event Awards.
Last nights’ win comes just after Bluesfest was awarded an International Greener Festival Award for 2013/2014 for the festival’s engagement with the process of reducing environmental impact. This award win marks the eighth year in a row that Bluesfest has won a Greener Festival Award.
Bluesfest has also recently been nominated for the highly regarded Annual Pollstar Award in the category of the 2014 ‘International Music Festival of the Year’ for the third year. The nomination marks the fifth time Bluesfest has been nominated for the prestigious award and the 25th Annual Bluesfest has been nominated alongside worldwide heavyweights including the Glastonbury Festival (UK), Isle Of Wight Festival (UK), Lollapalooza Brazil (Brazil), Tomorrowland (Belgium). The 26th Annual Pollstar Awards will be held in February 2015 at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Awards season is now in full force and next up is the NSW Tourism Awards to be held on Thursday 27th November at the Dockside Pavilion, Darling Harbour in Sydney. Bluesfest is nominated in the Major Festival and Events Category after winning Gold at the regional North Coast Tourism Awards.
The 26th Annual Bluesfest will take place over the next Easter long weekend; Thursday 2nd to Monday 6th of April 2015 at the festivals purpose built home, the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay, NSW. Headliners announced to date include The Black Keys, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals (exclusive – only Australian performance) Paolo Nutini, David Gray and The Gipsy Kings amongst many others.
