Book Review of ‘Just Breathe’

Just Breathe by Heather Allen

Book review by Hush Hush Biz book reviewer Jamie Campbell.

Ever just got dumped by her long-term boyfriend. As she tries to get over that heartbreak, she meets Jack, the new kid at her school.

As her birthday approaches, Ever discovers she is a mermaid. On the night of her birthday, she must choose whether to remain on land forever, or embrace the sea and live among the merpeople.

With Jack and her grandmother there to help guide her, Ever struggles with her decision. Especially when she learns of the true history of the merpeople. There is a lot of politics going on under the sea and she must become a part of it to make a difference.

I really wanted to like Just Breathe, because mermaids are cool, but this book just did not do it for me. Ever was annoying, flipping back and forth and never getting anywhere, really. The story dragged with no real outcome and no real action occurring. To be read by only the hardcore mermaid fans.
