CIRCUSDUST HUSH HUSH BIZ SINGLE REVIEW: Dream

Indie rock band Circusdust has just released Dream, a potent new pop-rock song with a galvanising message and a sound that combines a rock edge with excellent musicianship and soaring lead vocals.

The exceptional vocal performance is due to the fact that Circusdust’s frontman is Altiyan Childs who is no stranger to success and fame after winning the second season of The X Factor Australia in 2010, and subsequently signing with Sony Music Australia and having several hit records including a platinum album. Altiyan has seemingly channelled all his experience into Circusdust and the result is this new track, Dream, a hypnotic blend of all the good parts of rock with a lyric that many will relate to.

Mars Marcos on drums and Dave Beaton on bass accompany Altiyan and the unit create an impressive sound, utilising the interplay between guitar bass and drums to invoke an aural landscape that combines evocative melodies, space and a close to the bone lyric.

When asked about his creative process Altiyan says: ‘Inspiration is needed to kick the process off. Everything is a true story, so I need to experience something in order to do more than just jam on my guitar. Usually, the darkness of the world is what triggers the light to shine. Much of my music is driven by my love for God. Sometimes the song writes itself, and I know not how I came up with the chords and/or lyrics. Other times it takes weeks to finish a song’.

Dream certainly does have moments of sustained power and allure, such as in the bridge section before the end chorus. But the entire song is dotted with hooks that reach and grab you by the heart and soul. The song will no doubt attract commercial radio play and streaming playlist adds and not only for its accessibility but for its power, energy and impassioned performances.
