Cliff Curtis & Sofie Formica to host 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards

We’re thrilled to reveal the hosts of the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards. New Zealand movie star and APSA winner Cliff Curtis and popular Australian TV presenter Sofie Formica share the Brisbane stage.
Cliff Curtis is internationally-renowned for his roles in everything from the Oscar®-nominated Whale Rider to John Turteltaub’s recent blockbuster The Meg. Curtis joined the APSA Academy with a nomination as producer of Boy and wone an APSA for his performance in The Dark Horse.

Sofie Formica is one of Australia’s most popular lifestyle presenters and has made her name on television, both in Australia and the US, best known most recently for her long-running role hosting Channel 7’s The Great Day Out. 2018 marks Formica’s third time hosting the awards.

This week we also announced the recipients of the inaugural APSA Brisbane Short Film Fund, a $50,000 grant designed to boost local filmmakers. We are delighted to welcome the new filmmakers into the APSA story. Recipients are:
Verena Thomas producer of A Slice of Life: Mama Daisy (drama). Chantelle Murray writer and director of My Name is Mudju (drama). Arun Keitsirat writer, producer and director of The Boob Issue (documentary). Jade Van der Lei writer and producer of Wandering Soul (drama). Morteza Halimi animator, writer, producer and director of FLY (animation).
We’d also like to invite you to two special free events as part of our Industry Program in the lead up to the awards.
The first is a masterclass with producer Lord David Puttnam (Chariots of Fire, The Killing Fields), who will discuss how emerging filmmakers can adjust to the demands of a rapidly evolving screen industry.
The second is an In Conversation on music in film. Internationally celebrated composer and musical director Sneha Khanwalkar (Gangs of Wasseypur, Manto) will discuss her work and perform her award-winning music. Khanwalker will also join us at the awards as a member of the APSA Music in Film International Jury.

The 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 29 November. Tickets are now on sale. Secure the final tickets fast.​
