Australian Red Carpet Premiere of
DANGER CLOSE: THE BATTLE OF LONG TAN
on the Gold Coast
Transmission Films today confirms the Australian Red Carpet Premiere of DANGER CLOSE: THE BATTLE OF LONG TAN will be held on the Gold Coast on Sunday July 21, ahead of the film’s national release in cinemas on August 8, 2019.
Starring an outstanding Australian cast including Travis Fimmel, Luke Bracey, Daniel Webber, Nicholas Hamilton, Stephen Peacock, Alexander England and Richard Roxburgh, DANGER CLOSE: THE BATTLE OF LONG TAN is directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog), from a script by BAFTA award winning Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Collateral, Australia). Shot on location in South East Queensland, DANGER CLOSE: THE BATTLE OF LONG TAN is a nail biting and dramatic exploration of war illustrating heroism, camaraderie, tragedy and the sacrifice of battle, and is inspired by true events.
The premiere will take place on Sunday July 21 at Event Cinemas Pacific Fair, and is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland, The Gold Coast Film Festival & Event Cinemas. The guest list includes veterans, dignitaries, cast and filmmakers. Tickets are also open to the public and are now on sale.
“This film is a moving tribute to the extraordinary Australian and New Zealand soldiers who fought this battle as part of Queensland’s 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR). After sold out advance screenings and wide praise at the Sydney Film Festival 2019 on the weekend, we are very excited about bringing this epic film home to premiere in Queensland,” said Transmission Films Joint Managing Directors Andrew Mackie and Richard Payten.
” This is a story of courage and heroism” said Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk “More importantly it is OUR story and, as the years pass, more and more Australians will be hearing it for the first time. A local film industry telling our stories is the best part of having a local film industry. It’s why my government is so proud to support it.”
For three and a half hours, in the pouring rain, amid the mud and shattered trees of a rubber plantation called Long Tan, Major Harry Smith and his dispersed company of 108 young and mostly inexperienced Australian and New Zealand soldiers are fighting for their lives, holding off an overwhelming force of 2,500 battle hardened Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers. With their ammunition running out, their casualties mounting and the enemy massing for a final assault, each man begins to search for the strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honour, decency and courage.
DANGER CLOSE: THE BATTLE OF LONG TAN is releasing in Australian cinemas on August 8, 2019. Produced by Red Dune Films and Deeper Water Films, with investment from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland, Screen Australia and Saboteur Media.
