A celebration of music, culture and identity from the hearts and mouths of a new generation, Deadly Hearts 2, is released today, ahead of NAIDOC Week 2019, through ABC Music/UMA. An album of iconic songs reimagined by Australia’s best young Indigenous artists, Deadly Hearts 2 features Dan Sultan, Dallas Woods, Tia Gostelow, Electric Fields and many more.

Following on from the acclaimed original 2017 instalment of Deadly Hearts, the call was once again put out to artists; “Which song has spoken most strongly to you about growing up an Indigenous Australian?” The response; a collection of incredible reimaginations from this country’s deadliest and most inspiring young musicians, taking us on a sonic journey through the foundations of their musical inspiration, and the songs that have helped shape their Indigenous identity and culture.

The album’s diverse sonic landscape reflects the varied and dynamic ensemble of talent involved: Electric Fields offer a haunting, electronic update of the desert reggae classic ‘Vision’; Alice Skye shares a goose bump-inducing take on Leah Flanagan’s ‘Speak Your Language’; Dallas Woods explores the ongoing fight for survival on his urgent version of ‘Get By’; Dan Sultan provides a spinetingling acoustic performance of Warumpi Band’s ‘Fitzroy Crossing’; and Nooky shouts out to hip hop heroes Local Knowledge with his stirring version of ‘Blackfellas’.

From Brisbane to Bourke, from Adelaide to Horsham, Deadly Hearts 2 showcases Australian music at its absolute finest. Each artist brings their own flavour, whilst paying homage to and retaining the soul of these songs that hold a special place in their hearts.

The modern sound of Indigenous Australia. The next generation of storytellers.
