DRAKE DOMINATES 2016 BET AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominations for the 2016 BET Awards are in! This year’s broadcast marks 16 years of spectacular performances, must-see moments, outstanding talent and exquisite music, all available to live stream straight off the brand new BET Play app, Monday 27th June at 10am, repeating Thursday 30th June at 2pm on MTV Music.

BET Play, which launched today, is the only place that fans can live stream the 2016 BET Awards. BET Play gives Aussie fans a way to enjoy BET’s signature award shows, current and classic television series, documentaries, standup comedy, entertainment news and legendary musical performances, straight to their iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. The app also offers BET Soul, the premiere curated music video channel for lovers of soul, R&B and classic hip-hop as well as popular series such as Being Mary Jane, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Chasing Destiny, Zoe Ever After and more.

Hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the BET Awards will include performances by Usher, Future, Bryson Tiller, Alicia Keys and Maxwell with special performances in honour of the late pop icon Prince by Sheila E., Janelle Monae, D’Angelo and The Roots. The star power continues as Gabrielle Union, Nate Parker, DJ Khaled and many others will take the stage as presenters during the 16th anniversary event.

Leading the pack this year is Drake, receiving an impressive nine nominations including Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for his hit ‘Where Ya At’ with fellow hip hop artist Future. Beyoncé and Rihanna follow with five nods each. Beyoncé is nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for ‘Feeling Myself’ with Nicki Minaj. Rihanna is in the running for awards including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for ‘Work’ featuring Drake. Other nominees include newcomer Bryson Tiller who is up for four awards including Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Chris Brown who is also nominated for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Video Director of the Year.

Akon will be honoured with the 2016 Global Good Award for his humanitarian work, bringing solar electricity to 600 million people in more the 11 countries in rural Africa. The second annual Global Good Award honours individuals championing endeavors which positively impact change and heighten awareness around the globe.
