Experience LOW CLOUDS at Queensland Theatre

Limited season of the intimate performance experience LOW CLOUDS at Queensland Theatre

August 30 to September 2

In every drop of rain, A red or yellow colour buds from the seeds of flowers.
Every tear wept by the hungry and naked people,
And every spilt drop of slaves’ blood Is a smile aimed at a new dawn,
A nipple turning rosy in an infant’s lips
In the young world of tomorrow, bringer of life.
And still the rain pours down
“Rain Song” by Iraqi poet Badr Shakir al-Sayyab

From mainstage to the fringe, Queensland Theatre’s support is comprehensive. Opening on August 30 is a new production, LOW CLOUDS, the work of Iraqi-born artist Niz Jabour who now divides his time between Brisbane and Port Macquarie and who was the recipient of the company’s “8 WEEKS IN A THEATRE” program for independent artists.

LOW CLOUDS is an intimate (40 seat only) theatre experience in Queensland Theatre’s Diane Cilento Studio over four performances only from Wednesday 30 August through the Saturday 2 September.

A demonstration of the magic of collaboration using interdisciplinary performances, the production is a performance about what can happen under the low clouds of everyday life – a collage of gathered thoughts reflecting on memories of rain, war, love and loss – interwoven with poetry, storytelling, songs and mime. The stories are collected and developed from previous presentations of THE RAIN PROJECT, in Iraq and in Australia.

Director and production founder Niz Jabour said, “LOW CLOUDS is a creative and artistic response to the rain in human life, history and memory. I must sing out a loud thank you to Queensland Theatre, for the great opportunity they have offered me. If it were not for this support, LOW CLOUDS would not exist.”

The performance features an ensemble of diverse Brisbane artists: Rhyia Cherry, Peter Irankunda, Jessie Men, Nour Mowaswas, Kansun Ranatunga, Jeanda St James, Philip Lawrence, Vittorio Yun and Niz Jabour
