Being a foodie and i must say I love watching mastercheifs cook’ and in watching this film ‘Sugar and Stars’ I was drawn to the story being based on champion pastry chef Yazid Ichemrahem’s as to becoming World champion pastry cheif.
This story is one that is of struggles of a son and his mother and is beautiful played by Algerian-born social media influencer Riadh Belaïche, who got casted as to a producer spotting him on red carpet at Cannes Film Festival which then come for him to meet the director as they were in final casting.
Balaiche says that of his role to being a lead actor was such a amazing time in his life to be in this as he liked stepping out of his comfort zone. He adds that’s what allows me to play characters with intensity. What I like most about this process is delving deep inside myself to fetch things that may be buried way out of view, and playing feelings, a personality and emotions that aren’t necessarily part of my daily life or habits.
The back end story in playing Yazid is he has a issue with his mother, whose relationship with her has reached a point of no return. He’s trying to get on in life and succeed but every time he manages to clamber to his feet, she comes along and pushes him back down. All he’s trying to do is fulfil his passion, doing what he loves. All his life, throughout his childhood, he was dragged from one place to the next. Confectionery is a form of escape; it allows him to get away, and see and live something completely different from what he’s used to.
Director SÉBASTIEN TULARD, comments in taking on the project that it all began with Laurence Lascary and Lahoucine Grimich, the associate producers on this film. Laurence read an article about Yazid Ichemrahen on Mouloud Achour’s talk show’s website; in the article, Yazid was discussing his latest book. She realized they shared the same values – advancement and upward social mobility, success, a desire to excel oneself – themes that she and Lahoucine are keen to champion in their films. They obtained the rights then asked screenwriter Cédric Ido to come up with the script. Well written it is. He was also meant to direct the film but got involved in another project, at which point I was asked to work on this delightful movie.
Yes it is delightful as to watching dreams come true and to the inspiring belief of ones self to succeed.
