Audiences are invited to The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre for a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition: I Talk Through My Art and My Art Talks Through Me, featuring the works of prolific First Nations artist Danny Eastwood, a proud Ngemba man and resident of the Darug area of western Sydney.

This important exhibition is curated by Eastwood’s son Jamie Eastwood and is coupled with six free workshops for all ages. Eastwood is well-known for his extensive murals across Sydney walls, floors, hospitals and trains, and with 40 years of creating iconic cartoons for the Koori Mail, he is an inspiration to generations of artists.

From 2 March to 15 April 2023, 10 am to 5 pm, Tuesday to Saturday, visitors of all ages are welcome to come and explore the exhibition of Eastwood’s new and existing paintings, prints, cartoons, and ceramics. Throughout the exhibition, Eastwood will be adding new creations to his featured ‘cartoon wall’ at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre.

For 2 hours each Friday (10.30 am to 12.30 pm), art lovers of all ages can join Eastwood for workshops such as painting (10 March and 14 April), drawing and cartoons (17 March), jewelry making (24 March), mould making and plaster casting for sculpture (31 March). While these are free, registrations are essential as spots are limited.

Danny Eastwood said, “Art is my voice and my heart. Through my practice, I talk about my life experiences, my culture, and my heritage. My art is not just about the finished product, but it’s also about the journey of creation. I find inspiration in my community, my people, and the world around me.”

Mayor of Blacktown City, Cllr Tony Bleasdale AO said, “This is an exhibition not to be missed. We are so fortunate to have an artist of Danny Eastwood’s calibre living and working in Blacktown. Bring your family and friends along to the free exhibition and workshops.”
