Sony Music Entertainment Australia, ARIA Hall of Fame legends the Hoodoo Gurus and Vivid Sydney are excited to announce that both performances of ‘Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution’ scheduled for this year’s Vivid Sydney on Friday 22 May and Saturday 23 May have now completely sold out.
Performing as part of the Vivid Music program, the Hoodoo Gurus will be bringing the past 30 odd years of the band to the stage at the established Powerhouse Museum.
Founding Hoodoo Gurus and Australian musical legend, Dave Faulkner, said “We’re thrilled with the response we’ve received for Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution and it’s exciting to be part of the biggest and best Vivid Sydney. The two shows will be particularly special to the band as we’ll be showcasing how our sound and music has evolved across the past 30 years.”
Dave went onto add “One of our first gigs in the Hoodoo Gurus was at the Australian Museum on William Street so it’s fitting that we celebrate 30 years of Hoodoo Gurus evolution with the ‘Be My Guru’ concerts at another important Sydney museum, The Powerhouse. During that time we’ve crawled out of the primordial ooze and become a part of Australian culture. Living history or re-living history – either way we belong in a museum!”
Ignatius Jones, Creative Director of Vivid Sydney, added “The Hoodoos were always ahead of their time, so it doesn’t surprise me that they were the first Vivid Music act to sell out one show and then – just as quickly – another… I can’t wait for the gig.”
Curator of the Vivid Music program, Stephen Ferris, added “It should come about as no surprise that the Hoodoo Gurus special one-off event ‘Be MY Guru’ has been the first Vivid Music event to sell out. Quality of songs, a history of satiated live music customers and a cult following that tracks Australian music for 30 years bears fruit. I am so proud to have them on the Vivid Music 2015 program.”
The Vivid Music program is a key part of Vivid Sydney, which is owned and managed by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency. The world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas will take over Sydney for 18 nights from 22 May until 8 June.
