Before RENT there was tick, tick…BOOM!
Hugh Sheridan stars as Jon, a promising young composer at a crossroads.
Just before the opening of RENT in New York, its creator Jonathan Larson tragically died, aged 35, before getting to witness his masterpiece. His semi-autobiographical story tick, tick…BOOM! lays bare the sacrifices the composer made to achieve his big break in theatre.
The year is 1990 and Jon, a promising young composer is on the brink of turning 30 and falling into oblivion. His girlfriend wants to move out of the city, his best friend’s making big bucks on Madison Avenue; and he’s still waiting tables while writing the next great American musical. Hugh Sheridan takes the lead role of a struggling composer facing a crossroads in life, holding on to his dreams, and grappling with one of life’s greatest questions – what to do with the time we have?
Recently developed into a film by HAMILTON creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, and featuring heart-grabbing passionate songs “30/90”, “Sunday” and “Come to Your Senses”, accompanied by a live onstage band, tick, tick…BOOM! is an uplifting, unforgettable show.
