Change Up
Change Up is the latest track for Australian hip-hop star Tinyvix (aka Afeez Babs). The multifaceted music artist has been releasing tracks since 2020, including the songs Love It (2020), On Me (2021) and Incredible (2022), each generating over 700k Spotify streams and attracting a loyal fan base and a substantial online presence, a testament to his artistic and entrepreneurial ambitions and creative inventiveness. When asked about what lies behind the inspiration for Change Up, Tinyvix says, ‘For me, I like positive energy, and that’s the kind of vibe you get from music. The message behind my new release is to do what you love, regardless, and don’t let anyone bring you down or tell you what you can or can’t. I wrote the lyric, so you know it’s straight from my heart, from experience, or what I’m currently going through.’ A melancholy synth line introduces the track, setting the general tone and flavour and establishing an emotionally heated mood, one that’s augmented by dynamics and Tinyvix’s coalescing vocal. The production harnesses contemporary textures and sounds but manages to imbue them with Tinyvix’s stylistic nuances. The lyric explores themes of defiance and self-preservation, and it’s evident that Tinyvix’s music resonates with many across the globe. As he says, ‘I get messages from people all around the world about how much they loved my sound, artist, and producers wanting to collaborate, being invited to perform at gigs, and working with others in the creative industry.’ The groove is laid-back hip-hop, augmented by minimalistic instrumentation and Tinyvix’s self-asserting, intense vocal performance.
