Labor has today failed the children and families of Western Sydney by announcing that it would scrap well-advanced plans to move the Powerhouse Museum to Parramatta.

“This is major slap in the face for Western Sydney from Opposition Leader Michael Daley,” said Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee.

“Labor wants to give Parramatta a second class venue for exhibitions. Western Sydney deserves better.

“Families in Western Sydney deserves access to world-class arts and culture. Children in Western Sydney deserve to be inspired to become the next generation of researchers, scientists, engineers and astronauts.

“Our government is 100 per cent committed to moving the Powerhouse to Parramatta, building a world-class museum focusing on science, technology, engineering, maths and art. It’s a $640 million investment in arts and culture in Western Sydney and will be the anchor for an arts and culture precinct. We will also redevelop the Riverside Theatre in the process. The new museum would also include an amazing planetarium.

“Labor has no plan for Western Sydney.
“Opposition Leader Michael Daley should hang his head in shame.

Michael Daley needs to explain “Why is he pandering to his inner-city and Eastern Suburbs mates?” and “why is he letting down families in Western Sydney?”
