US HIT SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
Melbourne-based animation house Studio Showoff has made waves on the global stage, contributing a hilarious three-minute animated sketch to the long-running US comedy institution, Saturday Night Live. The skit, featuring Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet as a tech-bro-style God clumsily creating Earth, was a standout moment in the January 25th episode of SNL’s milestone 50th season.
Helmed by Ivan Dixon and Sean Zwan, Studio Showoff faced an intense challenge—bringing the sketch to life in just six days, a breakneck pace for animation. “Very few cartoons are broadcast live. It’s a terrible strain on the animator’s wrist,” joked Dixon. “Normally, something this length would take months to make, but they really wanted Chalamet to voice the main character, so what are you gonna do?”

Studio Showoff has built an impressive reputation, working on projects for Childish Gambino, Elton John, Gotye, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. They’ve also contributed to iconic shows like The Simpsons, Rick & Morty, and Adventure Time, as well as crafting an animated companion to Amazon’s Fallout series.
Reflecting on the experience, Zwan shared, “Showoff is proudly an artist-led, independent local studio. Our talented young team will take on any genre or style, but at our core, comedy is our true love. Being part of one of the most prolific sketch shows of all time was a dream come true.”
Chalamet, who is currently starring in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, brought his signature charm to the SNL episode, further cementing his status as a Hollywood favorite.
