Chloe Styler is delivering yet another refreshing burst of energy with her latest single ‘Girlfriend’ to radio today. Combining her authentic storytelling the song embraces the listener with warm synths and a hooky chorus; ‘Girlfriend’ is the fourth track lifted from the 25-year old’s forthcoming debut album.
Recorded at The Grove Studios, “Girlfriend”, sees Andy Mak (Vera Blue/The McClymonts) at the production helm and on bass, synths and keys. Harry Day from Middle Kids features on drums while Sam Telford (Vera Blue/Homegrown) provides guitars. It’s impeccably mixed by Jackson Barclay (Birds of Tokyo) and mastered by US dream team, Greg Calbi & Steven Fallone (Kacey Musgraves/John Mayer).
Written by Chloe Styler and friend Sarah Buckley (The Buckleys), ‘Girlfriend’ is an ode to the struggles of modern dating as Chloe realises the dating scene isn’t for her, as she elaborates:
“I wrote Girlfriend with my friend Sarah via zoom almost two years ago! At the time, I was going through the motions of being a newly single 20-something and although dating can be fun & exciting, I found it to be nothing short of a timewaster.”
“After some failed attempts at a first-date, I had the hook – ‘call me when you want a Girlfriend’ – swirling around in my head. It appeared the people I was dating only wanted one thing; and that wasn’t a Girlfriend. I knew I wanted this to be a really fun song, so I jumped on zoom with Sarah and a few hours later we had the song!
This latest single from the songstress marks the third in a trio of singles released by Chloe this year, behind ‘Loving You’ and ‘Where We Stand’. With previous support from the likes of Amnplify, Women In Pop, The Music Network and more, Chloe Styler is clearly a voice for our times.
The accompanying, pink-drenched music video was supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund and shot with an incredible production team, led by director, Madeline Alice Randall (Sycco/Hallie). The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Viewers will be drawn into Styler’s minds’ eye when watching the music video. Tickled pink and complete with vintage 80’s pieces, a re-imagined prom and sass; the clip plays upon the struggles of modern dating all while having a bit (or a lot!) of fun.
Chloe Styler had the pleasure of playing ‘Girlfriend’ with her band at Suncorp Stadium as the pre match entertainment at the Broncos vs Sharks game last month.
