On Centre Stage.
Show: COOLY ROCKS ON.
Where: the Southern Gold Coast and Tweed.
Continues until June 13 2016
To coin an early rock ‘n’ roll phrase this joint is jumpin’ as the Coolangatta and Tweed Heads nostalgia festival continues until June 13.
The sights and sounds of the 50s & 60s are coming back in the shape of early rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, classic cars, hot rods and fashions.
Among the happenings are a display of pre-1970 cars, nightly cruises, music, dancing and family fun -all trademarks of the festival.
Last year, a pumped-up crowd of more than 100,000 people made the Cooly Rocks On events come alive.
This year more than 50 rock’n’roll and rockabilly bands will take part in outdoor concerts, beachside marquee events and local clubs at the border towns.
On the car front Cooly is revving up to host the biggest car show this year with more than 1,300 pre-1970 custom and classic cars and hot rods registered for the Shannon’s Show’n’Shine car displays.
Organisers estimate the cars on display will top the 30 million dollar mark.
The annual Sharp Motor Group Cooly Rocks On Street Parade will take place on Saturday (June 11) leaving Musgrave Street Kirra at 9.30am.
During the Grand Finale weekend the two main streets in Coolangatta will close to traffic to make way for a giant street party.
Five outdoor music stages, music and dancing will fill the streets and almost every pub and club in the Cooly Rocks On precinct will be venues for live music and dancing.
