Last night’s arrival of Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA was one of the most remarkable shows I’ve seen. This tour celebrates 25 years since Cirque du Soleil first brought its mesmerizing performance Saltimbanco to Australia. Written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, LUZIA takes audiences on a journey to an imaginary Mexico—a vibrant world where dreams blend with reality. The show dazzles with awe-inspiring moments, incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes for the first time in a Cirque du Soleil touring production.
While I was impressed by all the acts, a few were truly mind-blowing. As always, Cirque du Soleil delivers a night of full-on entertainment, with exceptional performances, music, costumes, and first-class set designs.
Brisbane is now host to a world-class event, and missing it would be a shame. Here are some facts about what it takes to bring a production like this to town:
Cirque du Soleil’s Big Top seats more than 2,500 people.
The entire site setup takes 8 days.
The Big Top stands 19 meters high and is 52 meters in diameter.
The four steel masts each stand 25 meters tall.
550 pegs are required to hold the Big Top firmly in place.
The Big Top can withstand winds up to 75 mph.
The white-colored canvas helps reduce energy consumption and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
LUZIA travels with nearly 2,000 tons of equipment.
LUZIA premiered in April 2016 and is Cirque du Soleil’s 38th original production since 1984.
The name LUZIA is a combination of the Spanish words “luz” (light) and “lluvia” (rain).
LUZIA is the first touring production to incorporate rain into its acrobatic and artistic scenes.
More than 4.5 million spectators worldwide have already experienced the breathtaking acrobatics of LUZIA.
There are 1,000 pieces of costume seen on stage during LUZIA.
The show travels with a team of 120 people, including 47 artists from 26 different countries.
LUZIA is the 10th Big Top show to visit Australia in 25 years.
