Mamma Mia! Kicks Off at The Star Gold Coast with an All-Australian Cast!
The world’s favourite feel-good musical, Mamma Mia!, officially opened at The Star Gold Coast, and while I couldn’t make it in person myself, our Hush Hush Biz team on the ground reported that the blue carpet premiere was pure magic! The room was buzzing with invited guests, nostalgic hits, and incredible energy as this beloved production made its triumphant return to the local stage.
Presented by The Very Popular Theatre Company, the show features a powerhouse 31-member cast of stage performers from across the country, including five fantastic South East Queensland artists in principal roles.
The global phenomenon brings its signature high energy to Gold Coast audiences, who are encouraged to sing along to 22 of ABBA’s greatest hits while being swept away by this heartwarming, hilarious story on a sun-soaked Greek island.
Leading the cast as Donna Sheridan is Erin Cornell (WICKED, CATS), joined by Brisbane’s Chloe Rose Taylor (Beauty and the Beast) as Tanya and Gold Coast local Jo-Anne Jackson (Titanique, Elvis: A Musical Revolution) as Rosie—reuniting the iconic ’70s trio ‘Donna & the Dynamos’. Gold Coast favorite Emily Monsma (WICKED, Hairspray) shines as Sophie Sheridan.
“I’m super excited to be back on the Gold Coast performing in Mamma Mia! It’s a show I hold very dear to my heart,” says Monsma. “I remember growing up singing ABBA songs with my grandma and sister, and seeing an ABBA tribute show at The Star when I was 11.”
Rounding out the principal lineup are Matt Edwards (Sam Carmichael), Brisbane’s Timothy Aaron Cooper (Harry Bright), Danny Folpp (Bill Austin), Harley Dasey (Sky), Samuel Allsop (Eddie), Jake Ameduri (Pepper), and Brisbane’s Juliette Coates (Ali).
Supported by an electric ensemble of local legends and national stage talent—with credits spanning Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Come From Away—this production is backed by an acclaimed creative team led by Director Erin James and Musical Supervisor Dan Wilson.
