Mr Peter Phillips, the son of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, married Mrs Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Rupert Sanders and Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, in a private and elegant ceremony at All Saints Church, Kemble, near Cirencester.
Surrounded by close family and friends, the couple exchanged vows in the picturesque Cotswold countryside before gathering for a reception at Gatcombe Park, hosted by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
Among the distinguished guests were Their Majesties The King and Queen, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, together with their husbands Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank.
In a touching tribute to her late father, Harriet was escorted down the aisle by her brother, Nicholas Sanders. The ceremony was conducted by the Reverend Dr Steve Bullock of All Saints Parish Church, with the marriage blessing and address delivered by the Reverend Nicky Gumbel.
The bride wore a breathtaking custom-designed gown by acclaimed British designer Emilia Wickstead. Crafted in Italian crêpe and structured with French lace, the gown featured a graceful square neckline, low back, and a dramatic sculpted train. A removable sheer lace bodice, created using archival lace from renowned French lace house Sophie Hallette, added a romantic layer to the modern silhouette. The entire ensemble was handcrafted in Emilia Wickstead’s West London atelier.
Harriet completed her bridal look with a tiara and earrings from Pragnell London and shoes by Jimmy Choo. Her bouquet, designed by celebrated floral artist Millie Richardson, featured scented lily of the valley, sweet peas, jasmine, astilbe and symbolic sprigs of myrtle, representing love, beauty and peace — a tradition shared by both Harriet’s family and the Royal Family.
The couple’s daughters, Savannah Phillips, Isla Phillips and Georgina Sperling, served as bridesmaids. Dressed in Emilia Wickstead creations and wearing Aspinal London earrings, they carried delicate posies featuring seasonal flowers, including pale blue Nigella, known as “Love-in-a-Mist,” a cherished family wedding tradition.
Peter Phillips wore a bespoke classic morning suit created by the prestigious Savile Row tailoring house Dege & Skinner. Established in 1865, the firm has a long-standing relationship with the Phillips family, having tailored garments for Captain Mark Phillips, Peter Phillips and other members of the family for decades. Peter’s longtime childhood friend, Andrew Tucker, served as his right-hand man.
The wedding and reception were curated by renowned event planners Peregrine and Caroline Armstrong-Jones of Bentleys Entertainments, assisted by Flora Williams-Ellis. The respected planners have organised numerous notable events for members of the Royal Family over several decades, including celebrations for The Princess Royal and the wedding of Zara and Mike Tindall.
A standout feature of the day was the spectacular floral design by Millie Richardson. Known for her large-scale artistic installations, Richardson transformed both the church and reception spaces using English-grown flowers, trees and seasonal greenery sourced from specialist growers across the region.
Elegant floral archways greeted guests at All Saints Church, featuring rambling roses, peonies, honeysuckle and jasmine in a soft palette of white, cream and blush tones. Sustainability was central to the floral design, with trees and extensive planting intended for replanting after the celebrations. Flowers from the church will also be distributed throughout the local community in appreciation of their support during the wedding preparations.
Following the ceremony, guests gathered at Gatcombe Park for an intimate reception celebrating the newlyweds. Combining timeless elegance, family traditions and thoughtful contemporary touches, the wedding of Peter and Harriet Phillips was a joyful occasion that reflected both the couple’s personal style and the warmth of their close-knit families.
