The Powerhouse has announced the opening of the Powerhouse Community Space in Parramatta Square, a new location for the community to discover more about Powerhouse Parramatta, engage with the Museum’s STEM learning activities as well as learn about its iconic collection.

Including a virtual reality (VR) glimpse into what the new Museum will look like, the space will welcome the community in to learn about how Western Sydney’s first Cultural Institution will transform arts and culture across Greater Sydney.

Museum Trust President, Peter Collins AM QC said the Powerhouse is thrilled to be launching the space this summer as the project enters the delivery phase for the new flagship Museum for Western Sydney.

“Powerhouse Parramatta will be the home of science and technology and we are looking forward to providing a sneak peek into the new Museum and all the incredible cultural benefits it will bring. It will be fantastic to showcase our education programs including VR experiences at our new location in Parramatta Square,” said Mr Collins.
“The Powerhouse also welcomes the NSW Government’s announcement today of the three shortlisted contractors, Lendlease, Multiplex and Richard Crookes Constructions to deliver our world-class Museum. This announcement is another exciting step towards Western Sydney’s first major cultural institution,” added Mr Collins.
Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah said Powerhouse Parramatta will be a world-class contemporary museum that reflects the communities and cultures of one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

“We are thrilled to be joining the community of Parramatta this summer and look forward to showing the public how this extraordinary cultural asset will bring arts and culture to Western Sydney like never before in the region’s history.”
“Featuring over 18,000 square metres of exhibition and public spaces, Powerhouse Parramatta will be more than just a Museum – it will be a new cultural precinct for the whole community to enjoy,” said Ms Havilah
“From cutting edge international exhibitions – the possibilities for storytelling are endless. Powerhouse Parramatta will inspire visitors from across Australia and around the world.”

Once open, Powerhouse Parramatta will attract two million visitors a year, injecting millions of tourism dollars into Western Sydney. In its first year 10,000 regional NSW students will also have the opportunity to come to Parramatta for overnight stays to immerse themselves in the museum’s science, technology, engineering and maths programs.
Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout summer, the Powerhouse Community Space will provide the local community with an opportunity to speak with the Project Team and Powerhouse Staff about the future of the new Museum.
