David Megarrity was the winner of Queensland Premier’s Drama Award in 2018-19 as a writer, composer, and one good performer.
David received the award for The Holidays, and he showed a touching portrait of memory and connection as audiences follow 12-year-old Oliver on an unexpected road trip with his parents.
Combining live performance, music and cutting-edge projection the play chronicles family life for family viewing. Set to premiere in 2020 with Queensland Theatre, Megarrity’s work will be directed by Matilda-Award winner Bridget Boyle.
The Queensland Premier’s Drama Award’s are back again this year led by a panel of industry professionals to shine a spotlight on writers and performance-makers. The program assists the winner in the development of their first drafts or pitch documents into a world premiere professional production. “The QPDA sits at the centre of Queensland Theatre’s ambition to lead from Queensland in the nurturing of new stories and new talent,” said Queensland Theatre Artistic Director, Sam Strong. Entries are now open for the 2020-21 cycle.
