REEL FASHION COLLECTION UNVEILED AT PALACE CINEMAS

The faces of fashion in film will light up the screen at Palace Centro Cinema, every Friday night from July 10 through to October, with the launch of Reel Fashion. Launching with an exclusive Q&A Gala preview screening of Women He’s Undressed, we are delighted to announce acclaimed director Gillian Armstrong will be our special guest for the evening.

Women He’s Undressed is a fascinating documentary telling the extraordinary story of little known Australian costume designer and three-time Oscar winner Orry-Kelly. Gillian Armstrong will provide special insight about this designer whose costumes created some of the most magical moments in cinema history, during what many consider Hollywood’s golden era. Guests are invited to frock up and walk down the red carpet at Palace Centro, and we are delighted to be able to showcase select costumes from Australia’s largest private collection in our foyer on Opening Night.

Your Reel Fashion winter collection starts here, with this season’s look book featuring inspiring documentaries about the designers and magazine editors, the classics starring style icons from the golden age of Hollywood, and iconic comedies with an eye on style. Guests are in for a treat with selected sessions to include style counsel and pamper sessions from local fashion and beauty partners plus the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree on James St, courtesy of iconic James Street boutiques Samantha Ogilvie and Blonde Venus.

Throughout the program, Reel Fashion presents a special selection of films Orry-Kelly was involved with including 42nd Street and two of his Oscar-winning films Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe, and An American In Paris.

Breathtaking 1920s attire is on display in The Great Gatsby (1974), we flashback to the film which captured the 80s with a mash-up of shoulder-pads, retro eyewear, plaid and linen suits with Pretty In Pink and we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of iconic 90s satirical comedy Clueless.

In a remarkable tour de force portrayal Audrey Tautou becomes the legendary Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel on screen in Coco Avant Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent is an epic odyssey of creation, love, glamour, fashion and insight into the mind and life of one of the greatest visionary designers of our time.

Documentary highlights from Reel Fashion include Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, a look at the life of fashion visionary Diana Vreeland; Mademoiselle C, which follows one of the most revered doyens of modern fashion, former editor-in-chief at Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld and her glamourous friends; and 2014 darling Advanced Style, which examines the lives of seven unique New Yorkers.

Julianne Moore, Colin Firth and Mathew Goode star in a Tom Ford directed film A Single Man, Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom dances on to screens with dazzling costumes by four-time Oscar winner, Catherine Martin and nothing says fashion like Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.

Reel Fashion is proudly supported by Fashion Weekly and Weekend Edition and is a must for all fashion and style enthusiasts screening July to October at Palace Centro. Palace Cinemas are renowned as a provider of fully licensed and luxurious cinemas dedicated to showcasing quality films.
