Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett star together for new film “TRUTH”
Robert Redford has landed in Sydney and will play legendary US news anchor Dan Rather and with our Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett his producer in a film about the scandal provoked by claims that George W. Bush was a Vietnam draft dodger.
The scandal during Bush’s re-election campaign damaged Rather’s storied reputation and led to Mapes being fired from CBS after their report on 60 Minutes.
It is based on documents purportedly from the files of Bush’s deceased National Guard commanding officer, the story alleged that Bush’s father, future president George Bush, made calls that allowed him to join the Texas National Guard when he graduated from Yale to avoid fighting in Vietnam.
Conservative criticism prompted an internal CBS investigation into whether the documentary were forgeries.
The film, reportedly a behind-the-scenes look at the controversy, is in pre-production.
It is likely to be a 8 week shoot in Sydney.
