Sam Squiers has been appointed the position of Nine News Weekend Sports Presenter, with her first bulletin on Friday, 22nd April.
“I’m really excited to be taking on the role of Weekend Sports Presenter. I feel very privileged to be working with such an incredible sports team here at NINE, we’re such a close knit group and we all pull together for each other. “
Sam joined Channel 9 Brisbane in January 2014 as a sports reporter/journalist, covering both national and international sporting events as well as feature stories for the network. She also features on the TV shows, The NRL Footy Show, Getaway, Broncos Insider, Maroon Zone and the Isuzu Queensland Golf
Open on Channel Nine.
Mike Dalton, Director of News, Nine Queensland is delighted with Sam’s new appointment.
“Sam was our natural first choice to step into the weekend sports desk role and this reinforces Nine’s tradition of strong female presenters. No-one has a stronger passion for sport – and she doesn’t just report it, Sam lives it – whether it’s cycling, golf, netball, or surfboat rowing.
She’s run two marathons but just wishes her NRL tipping was better !”
Sam started her career as a reporter and presenter for WIN News Wollongong where she won the Australian Sports Commission Award for Best Sports Journalism from a Regional Area and also worked as a producer on the TV series Australia’s Greatest Athlete (Channel Nine).
Fluent in German, Sam lived in Berlin from 2003 to 2004, completing an internship with the international news broadcaster Deutsche Welle TV, and playing softball for Berlin in the German Bundesleague (National League).
