Sea World’s world-class Penguin Encounter exhibit has welcomed three adorable Gentoo Penguin chicks.

The chicks, which have been delighting Sea World guests, have been receiving doting attention from proud parents Widget and Bella, Geuce and Percy and Sanka and Binka.

Sea World’s Senior Penguin Keeper, Katrina Krygger said breeding season is an enriching time for the birds and the keepers couldn’t be happier to meet the newest additions to the Penguin Encounter colony.

“The gorgeous little chicks are all doing really well and we are very excited that Sea World guests will be able to come to the park and watch them grow,” she said.

“The chicks are fed around the clock by their parents who regurgitate a variety of small fish species which are rich in nutrients. Sanka and Binka are first time parents and are doing a fantastic job at taking care of their chick.

“The chicks will grow at a rapid pace and have almost tripled in weight since hatching after a 35-42 day incubation period.

The gender of the chicks will not be known until a DNA test is taken however Sea World is hosting an exclusive naming competition for Village Theme Parks Unlimited Members and is asking members to visit the Sea World Australia Facebook page to enter their suggestions.

The Gentoo chicks will grow to between five and seven kilograms and will reach maturity with-in three years. The two older chicks have already begun their move into adulthood and have been taken off exhibit while they develop their water-proof feathers and learn vital skills.

Sea World’s $12M Penguin Encounter exhibit is an amazing frozen world home to King and Gentoo Penguins who are important ambassadors for climate change and Sea World guests can learn about the effects of climate change in the Antarctic region in the Penguin Encounter educational exhibition.

The best way to see the Gentoo chicks is with a Village Theme Parks Unlimited Membership which for only $9 a month gives guests unlimited entry to Sea World, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast as well as a great range of members only benefits. For more information visit or call 13 33 86.
