Cameras are set to roll this February in Queensland, Australia, on Spa Weekend, a new destination comedy starring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau, and Anna Faris.
Directed by Bad Moms duo Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film will see the Gold Coast transform into Los Angeles as production gets underway with backing from Black Bear and Suzanne Todd Productions, alongside Australian production services from Brouhaha Entertainment.
The comedy follows three best friends whose luxurious getaway takes a chaotic turn when their unpredictable friend crashes the weekend.
Brouhaha Entertainment’s Troy Lum expressed excitement about returning to Queensland for another major production. “We’re thrilled to be back in the Sunshine State for the third time in as many years. Queensland’s remarkable talent, both on and offscreen, and its diverse locations continue to bring us north.”
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney also highlighted the region’s thriving film scene, fresh off the success of Boy Swallows Universe and the upcoming thriller Dangerous Animals.
With nearly 200 jobs created and an estimated $12 million boost to the local economy, Spa Weekend is another high-profile project cementing Queensland’s reputation as a go-to filming destination.
The film is produced by Suzanne Todd and Black Bear, supported by Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, the Gold Coast City Council’s Screen Attraction Program, and the Australian Government’s Location Offset.
