Peter Combe back on the road with his new Christmas Album.
With a career that spans more than three decades, it’s fair to say that beloved children’s entertainer Peter Combe has more than a few favourite albums under his belt. He has released 15 albums of all original children’s material (not including greatest hits or live CDs) throughout his career, and one of his all-time favourites, and one that is still touted as the most cherished among his fans is his 1990 Christmas Album release. For years, Peter has been asked when he will be performing all the songs from the album at concerts and now, 28 years after its first release, he is finally taking Peter Combe’s Christmas Album out on the road for a special run of shows.
We had Peter in the spotlight to share a few questions with us.
1. When did you know you wanted to be in the music industry?
From the age of 17
2. When growing up, what was the influence you most had around you that helped you?
Folk music of the 60’s, Beatles. Baroque and classical music that my father introduced to me.
3. Having targeted working with kid’s music and now 30 years in the biz, how do you describe the journey of this to now?
It’s been a wonderful journey, hopefully enriching the lives of children, parents and teachers
4. Do you have a favourite Album or series of songs you wrote?
Absolutely. Peter Combe’s Christmas Album, the one I’ll be touring this year
5. How long does it take to work an album or work on material you do?
Some I write in 90 mins, others 10-15 hours by the time I edit myself
6. What do you listen to in music?
Contemporary, baroque, folk, jazz. My tastes are broad
7. What are the highs and lows in the industry at times you may find?
The highs are performing to a great audience. The low is the incredible disinterest shown by the mainstream media in children’s music
8. What can we expect in your new live show?
I’ll be performing EVERY SONG from Peter Combe’s Christmas Album plus 4 from my other Christmas Album Wake Up It’s Christmas. A 7 capital cities tour with a band and talented young choir.
9. If you had a dream list of 4 musicians you could work with who would they be?
Paul Simon, Joe Osborne, Paul McCartney and Billy Joel
10. Whats the best advice you could give anyone in the music industry right now?
Be bold. Go out and make your own luck. There’s no such thing as talent spotters. Continue working on improving your skills whatever they are. Believe in yourself.
