Australia’s biggest ever celebration of classic dance music is less than a month away! After touring arenas and hitting the #1 spot in the UK albums chart, the ‘Ibiza Classics’ cultural phenomenon hits Australia for the very first time featuring icon Pete Tong and the acclaimed sixty-five-piece Heritage Orchestra conducted by Jules Buckley.
They will be joined on stage here in Australia by none other than Sneaky Sound System’s Connie Mitchell, up and coming soul songstress Thandi Phoenix and hip-hop star REMI. Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena show will also be joined by Annie Bass spinning tunes while Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl will be treated to Dom Dolla on the decks.
One of Australia’s most iconic vocalists, Connie Mitchell has defined Sneaky Sound System’s 14 ARIA Award Nominations, multi-platinum records and UK and US club chart toppers as one of the most successful independent acts of all time. She has also been a mentor on The Voice, was named #18 in a News Limited poll of Australia’s greatest all-time singers and lent her vocals to four tracks on Kanye West’s Grammy-winning album ‘Graduation’.
Thandi Phoenix is one of the country’s hottest newcomers with her monster track ‘Standing Too Close’ currently spinning across triple j after her blistering performances at Splendour in the Grass, Bluesfest and BIGSOUND. REMI is one of the frontrunners of the new guard of Australian hip hop, selling out tours across Australia, the UK and Europe following on from their triple j feature album ‘Raw X Infinity’.
“Really Looking forward to bringing the Ibiza Classics show to Australia and in keeping with what we have been doing in UK, to team up on stage with some of Australia’s young up and coming and established artists – Connie Mitchell, Thandi and Remi!” said Pete Tong.
Blending and re-working iconic anthems from the past 20 years of house and dance music with a full-scale Orchestra, the show is yet another bold, brilliant move from one of the most influential figures in dance music, Pete Tong. With modern, live reworking’s of classic club anthems from Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Eric Prydz, Robert Miles and more, as well as a hand selected list of guests, Tong’s latest foray into arena shows promises to be a dance party like no other.
The concept for the new show, which came into fruition in 2015 with the launch of BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, is one part large-scale club show and one part stage performance. ‘Pete Tong presents Ibiza Classics performed by The Heritage Orchestra conducted by Jules Buckley’ is a fresh and welcome change for fans of both classic house and modern dance music.
With its infectious, energetic brand of club music reworked by artistic director Chris Wheeler and The Heritage Orchestra, and the acclaimed conductor Jules Buckley at the helm, Pete Tong’s most recent show has already managed to captured the hearts of millions, with sold out shows around the UK, including the legendary O2 London.
