Composer, performer and photographer combine to create a stunning all-consuming experience in the third performance of the 2015 Mason & Hamlin recital series.
Gold Coast residents have the rare chance to hear a performance of Howard Blake’s monumental Lifecycle, accompanied by projected photography from leading photographer Morgan Roberts.
Lifecycle is a collection of twenty-four short pieces composed over a forty-year period creating a form of musical autobiography and at the same time musically depicting the entire human condition. Blake, a British composer most noted for his extensive film score work writes music of great beauty and poignancy, inspired by great romantics, jazz, ragtime and folk music.
Bringing Blake’s evocative score to life is acclaimed pianist Jenni Flemming, a popular performer in our series and one of Australia’s most awarded concert artists.
Roberts, who just happens to be Flemming’s son has responded to the music with a dazzling new array of images, which add a unique dimension and reinvent the whole experience of the piano recital.
“I saw Jenni and Morgan first perform this creation back in 2006 and it was amongst the most moving and memorable concert experiences I have ever had. I was thrilled that they have agreed to revisit their collaboration for our series.“ says Stewart Kelly Artistic Director of the series.
There is one performance only of this program, in the superb acoustic of the city Art Gallery at the Arts Centre Gold Coast.
