The Arts Centre Gold Coast presents
Jesus Christ Superstar

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic rock opera screams into 2014, re-imagined for a world driven by social media and obsessed with celebrity.

Since its Broadway debut, this spectacular musical has thrilled millions of theatregoers worldwide: mesmerising them with its passion and captivating them with its story.

The last seven days in Jesus’ life are dramatised with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality.

Propelled by a stirring score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, this classic rock opera takes you from rock anthems like Judas’ Heaven on their Minds through to ballads like Mary’s Everything’s Alright and I Don’t Know How to Love Him.

Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart. Don’t miss this thrilling new modernised production of one of the most popular musicals of all time, fully produced by The Arts Centre Gold Coast.

The classic rock opera gets a makeover.

Some of the lead cast in the JCS.
JESUS is played by Stevie Mac who has most recently been performing solo cabaret in Melbourne, working with his brother on pop band project Parislane and also drumming in the band, the thrill. He has recorded his own CDs and was recently a featured artist in The Greenroom Project.
Stevie played Jesus in an amateur production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2000 when he was just 17. Of The Arts Centre’s new production he says ‘I joined the cast as I’m passionate about the musical ever since falling in love with it in 2000. I have dreamed of performing the musical again since then, and I’m looking forward to work with true professionals such as Kris Stewart.

HEROD played by Bob La Castra who has performed ‘all over’ Australia, appearing in just about every major theatre in the country. He also performed throughout the UK, including the Lyceum Theatre in London and recorded an album in Nashville Tennessee (but not a ‘country’ album). He hosted national TV Shows Wombat, Holiday and Big Square Eye, was a regular cast member of Neighbours, developer and first writer of Bananas in Pyjamas, recorded an album with Brain Cadd, is a published children’s author and scriptwriter. He played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar in his late teens and has also played the role of Aladdin (London).
Bob says ‘I’m a ‘stage musical tragic’ and Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the classics. The Arts Centre always stages outstanding, quality productions and I’m very happy, excited and proud to be part of it. I’m relishing working with an exceptionally talented cast and a ‘top drawer’ Director and Musical Director, in what is truly a first class venue.’

JUDAS played by Dash Kruck is a familiar face in the theatre scene and has worked for most of the major companies in Queensland including QTC, LaBoite, Harvest Rain, QPAC and Oscar, among others. He will go straight into this production of Jesus Christ Superstar after completing a season of A Tribute of Sorts at QTC, a show that he also co-created.
Says Dash ‘This creative team is pretty much the best in the biz. Chances to work with this calibre of people don’t come along every day, so when they do, you jump on them! I’m so excited to get a chance to tackle this intense role. I’ve always wanted to play Judas. It is a major vocal workout each night but I’m so thrilled to have the challenge of bringing this character to life.’

Mary played by Lizzie Moore Most recently, Lizzie’s solo cabaret On a Night Like This was seen in London at BL-NK, and will be featured in the 2014 Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Queensland Cabaret Festival. In New York, Lizzie played Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway, and has appeared on stage throughout Australia. Lizzie teaches voice through her singing studio and is a graduate of BAPA – Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre).
Lizzie says ‘I’ve joined JCS to have the opportunity to appear on stage with such an amazingly talented cast, and work with the fantastic creative team and the team at the Arts Centre Gold Coast (as I’ve heard such great things from friends and colleagues who have worked there before).’
