TSTY HUSH HUSH BIZ SINGLE REVIEW Over You
TSTY’s last single Broken, which garnered great reviews and saw the band achieve impressive chart and streaming stats, was an indie-pop burst of fresh air which hinted at the potential of the band to truly become one of the most exciting Australian music acts of the last few years. The band whose members are Chezni Watson (lead vocals), Claudia Calabrese (keyboard/vocals), brothers Reece (guitar/vocals) & Caleb Lenzo (bass) and James Papanaoum (drums), has dropped their new track Over You and what a track it is.
Expanding their pop sensibilities Over You utilises an astute knack for impeccable melodies to create a sophisticated radio pop track with a dance edge and a universal lyric. Working under the guidance of one of John Feldmann’s engineers, Michael Bono (Blink 182, The Hunna, New Politics) and having renowned LA producer Zakk Cervini (5SOS, Machine Gun Kelly, Yungblud) mix and master the track, the band were inspired to explore a sound that revealed the innate pop side of the band and off the back of their celebrated debut EP Stuck In A Photograph.
After returning from LA, working with Pastel Recording Co’s Jon Lundin (Point North, Good Charlotte, The Faim) for their debut EP, TSTY were motivated to expand their sound, reworking an old track that had been written before their trip to LA. The result is Over You, an expressive encapsulation of the individual member’s diverse tastes and talents. A synth into leads straight into a hooky verse with Chezni’s impassioned vocal process easily discernible from the get-go. A pre-chorus breakdown, which also comprises striking melodic flavours segues into a sumptuous chorus, replete with lush vocals, seductive aural textures and an irresistible groove. Over You is the sound of a band that has refined their style and sound and emerged with a potentially massive hit.
